Review of the Eluktronics Max-15 High-Performance Covert Gaming Laptop (With Pictures – 2021)

An in-depth review of the Eluktronics Max-15 Covert Gaming Laptop as seen on Amazon.

Over the last year we’ve seen a lot of amazing gaming laptops. But the Eluktronics Max-15 with its sleek, thin, and covert design is a notebook that is catching people’s attention and is most certainly one of the best 15” gaming laptops to come out in 2020. This covert gaming laptop was purchased on Amazon for $1,499 (note: I do not get paid for purchases made via this link; you will always know when I may get a commission). This was a much cheaper alternative than getting it from the manufacturer’s website.

With that out of the way let’s take a look at the specs in the machine featured here:

Specs of the Eluktronics Max-15

This Eluktronics Max-15 Covert Gaming Laptop boasts an RTX 2070 graphics card, 16 GB of ram, a 512 GB NVMe SSD, and an Intel Core i7-10875H CPU. While not the best version of this machine, the RTX 2070 is a powerful card and the ram and storage can be upgraded, giving the device some longevity.

Ultra Performance in a Small, Covert Form Factor

The Eluktronics Max-15 has a thin, lightweight design. The Magnesium Alloy Chasis gives it the premium feel and look it deserves. It is very sturdy and well-built. There was concern from other reviewers about the size and weight of the charging brick, but I found it to be no problem and quite small for a gaming laptop charger. Having both the brick and the laptop in the Volher business laptop backpack at the same time was just fine.

Full-Sized RGB Keyboard

While the version of the Eluktronics Max-15 is a covert gaming laptop, some people might turn their heads and think that the RGB keyboard lighting gives it away, but honestly, it’s a nice feature and the backlighting is very strong and good enough so that you can see the keys in the dark. The Max-15 keyboard features a four-zone RGB lighting keyboard. The keyboard is a full-size keyboard and feels amazing to type on. The travel on the keyboard provides excellent feedback when typing and is very comfortable to use.

Alongside the keyboard is a multi-touch trackpad. It has a very smooth texture and almost feels like glass when using it. It can be turned off/on at your convenience by double tapping the top left corner. A white light will turn on indicating that it has been turned off.

One of the Only Cons: The Webcam

The webcam features an IR Camera and also has Windows Hello Support with dual digital microphones. But unfortunately, it leaves much to be desired. The placement on the bottom of the screen rather than the top is absolutely terrible and Eluktronics could’ve just not wasted their time and gotten rid of it. In order to make use of it you have to tilt the computer’s lid back to be in frame and being closer to the keyboard means it’ll pick up typing the most. The quality you see above is what you’re going to get so if you’re hoping to get a good webcam with your device don’t expect one with this machine.

Heating and Cooling

I have noticed that when playing games or performing high-demanding tasks that the fan noise gets somewhat loud, but it is not distracting or anything like that. The right side of the keyboard does tend to get warm, but the WASD keys and the left-hand side of the keyboard stay cool. Even when warm however, the keyboard is no problem to type on. I have had no issues with heat on this machine.

Final Thoughts on the Eluktronics Max-15

The reason I went with the Eluktronics Max-15 is because the 15″ screen provides a more immersive experience than smaller form factors and is more upgradeable in terms of ram and storage than say, the Asus G14 (a laptop I was heavily considering before purchasing this one). There are also more bottlenecks on smaller machines which made a 15-inch model more appealing.

So far, I have no complaints about the Eluktronics Max-15. The camera is unfortunate, but if you’re like me and you plug yours in most of the time via USB anyways it’s a moot point. The RTX 2070 graphics card has been able to handle pretty much anything I’ve thrown at it so far. It has no problems in day-to-day tasks and high-end gaming.

Now that 2021 is well underway what is your favorite laptop to come out of 2020? What are you looking forward to in 2021?
